Coaching Testimonial

As an architectural designer with my own business for the past five years, I have challenges focusing on the critical business tasks necessary for success. Brenda has the very unique ability to find solutions to the blocks that hold me back from achieving my goals. Brenda is able to solve these issues very quickly with minimal effort. At times, it seems, she is able to read my mind with the manner in which she poses questions, and in the way she delves into my thought processes and past events. As a result, I’m better able to focus on the tasks that are most important to my business success and I’m able to more easily complete them.

Coaching FAQ

How are you different from other coaches?
Every coach has a different style, based on their education and life experience. I use left-brained tools such as planning, organizing and breaking the problem down into bite-sized pieces. I also use right-brained tools such as visualizing and having the client pay attention to messages from their gut and heart. I use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) when fear, anger or another emotion is getting in the way of the tasks needed to reach the goal.

My weekly coaching packages include four weeks rather than three weeks in a month as some coaches offer. I am flexible with appointments. If you need to skip or reschedule an appointment because of vacation or other circumstances, I will give you credit for that appointment at a later date (with at least 24 hours notice). Some coaches require a preparation form to be completed prior to appointments. I give the option to my clients.
Why do you call yourself a "Holistic" Life and Business Coach?
I believe that all aspects of our life affect us. If you want to change your career, your success may be affected by your health and your emotional state of mind. If you want to change your personal life, you may be affected by what is going on at work. I help my clients reach their goals, and talk about other areas of their life when it is relevant. I have also studied many different areas, including the Law of Attraction, nutrition and marketing, and use this knowledge to help my clients.
How do I know if I should hire a coach?

Consider hiring a coach if you:

  • are stuck
  • procrastinate on doing things you'd like to do because of fear or lack of time
  • want to change something about your life
  • want to move faster towards your goals or
  • know that there is something missing in your life and haven't identified it yet

You may not be able to use a coach if:

  • your life is perfect and there is nothing about it that you want to change
  • you make changes as soon as you are exposed to a good idea that resonates with you
  • you believe you are powerless to make any changes in your life or
  • you are so depressed that you aren't able to take care of the basics in life
Why are your fees so reasonable?
I want to help people who are not yet reaching their potential. I work with people who have a wide range of incomes and expenses. Some clients are transitioning between jobs, have recently become self-employed or are stay-at-home moms. I don't want my fees to be a barrier to being able to help someone make the changes a coach can help them make.
Why does coaching cost so much?
The monthly coaching fee for life and business coaches ranges from $50-1000+ for 3 or 4 sessions per month. The average experienced coach charges $250-400 per month. I charged $100-$160 per month for my first two years of coaching, until I gained more experience. The fees that I receive for my coaching time also cover my office and advertising expenses, as well as the time I spend researching for my clients and emailing them. If my monthly fee is more than you feel you can afford at this time, consider one of my bi-weekly coaching packages, group coaching or a teleclass. I also offer various free tools at different times. Check out my articles and free tools page.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cheques/checks and credit cards (via Paypal). I accept payment in either Canadian or US dollars at the rates shown on my Coaching Packages page.
Can you claim the cost of coaching on your taxes?
I do not have training in accounting, and suggest that you talk to a certified accountant about your own situation. My understanding is that in Canada you can write-off the cost of coaching if you are self-employed or starting a business and the coaching concerns that business. In the U.S.A., expenses of continuing education undertaken to maintain and improve business and professional skills may be tax-deductible.
Is the cost of coaching covered by extended health, EAP's or employers?
Coaching is usually not covered by extended healthcare plans, although if you hire a coach who is also a psychologist there may be a bit of coaching added at no cost in addition to the therapy covered by your plan. An EAP - Employee Assistance Plan - may cover the cost of coaching. If your employer has an EAP, call the 1-800 number or talk to Human Resources to see if they cover coaching. If you'd like me to be your coach, let them know so that they can contact me to make arrangements if they are open to adding on a coach. Employers sometimes cover all or part of coaching if it makes good business sense to them.
How long do clients work with you?
My clients work with me for 3-12+ months, with the average at about 5 months. Occasionally a client will hire me for a one month boost to get started on something new. Sometimes my clients take a break for awhile and then have more coaching later.
What if I want to take a break from coaching?
If you decide to take a break from coaching you need only give me two weeks notice.
Do you coach men? Do you coach women?

I have successfully coached both men and women, and I enjoy coaching both. My past clients are approximately 25% male and 75% female.

Do you have your own coach?
Yes, I do. I believe that most people can benefit from a coach. I hired my first coach when I started on my journey as a coach and wanted someone to guide and support me as I struggled with confidence issues and lack of knowledge. Now I have a different coach who helps me grow my business and develop supporting balance with my personal life.
What happens during a typical coaching appointment?
At the beginning of the appointment we talk about the task(s) that were agreed upon at the prior appointment. If they went well, we briefly celebrate. If they didn't get done, we discuss what got in the way and how to overcome that the following week. The majority of the call involves me asking provocative questions, listening for what the client says and does not say, and sharing resources and experience. I use other tools when appropriate, such as body-centred exercises, guided visualization, and my intuition. It is amazing the answers you have to your questions when you slow down to listen to your body. I encourage my clients to improve their intuition and to tap both their creative and logical side.

Occasionally my clients cry. Often they laugh. They frequently have "aha" moments and feel positive about their future and the changes they are about to make. We end the session with 1-3 tasks to be completed by the following session.
